What we do with what you send us.

This notice covers this website only. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

What the forms collect.

Nothing at all until you fill in a form and press send. There are four forms on this site: the volunteer enquiry, the partnership enquiry, the Section 18A certificate request, and the contact form.

Between them they ask for your name and surname, your email address, your telephone number, the town or area you are in, and whatever you choose to write in the message. The partnership and 18A forms also ask for a company name and a VAT number, because a Section 18A certificate has to carry them.

You tick a box to say we may answer you. Nothing is sent without it.

Where it goes.

Straight into our email inbox, and nowhere else. The form is delivered as an email over an encrypted connection to the people who answer enquiries.

This website has no database. Nothing you type is stored on the site, on the server that delivers it, or anywhere a visitor could reach. There is no customer list, no marketing list, and no profile built from what you send.

We keep the email itself for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep an ordinary record of the conversation, such as the record behind a tax certificate we have issued, which South African tax law requires us to keep for five years.

Who else sees it.

  • Nobody we sell it to, because we do not sell it, rent it, or trade it.
  • Our email provider, which carries the message, as any email provider does.
  • The South African Revenue Service, for a Section 18A certificate, because a certificate is a tax document.
  • Anyone a court or a law obliges us to tell, which has not happened.

Cookies and tracking.

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and carries no advertising or social media tracking pixels. Nothing follows you from here to anywhere else.

Two things are worth naming honestly. The typefaces are served by Google Fonts, so loading a page asks Google for the font files, which means Google sees the request. The links to our Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages are ordinary links: nothing from those services runs on this site, and nothing happens until you choose to follow one.

Our host keeps standard server logs, the sort every web server keeps, which record addresses and page requests for a short period so the site can be kept running and defended.

Keeping the forms clean.

Each form carries a field that is hidden from people and visible to automated scripts, and it measures how long the form was open before it was sent. Both are used only to recognise a machine filling in the form. Neither is used to identify you, and neither is kept.

Children.

No photograph, name or story of a child is published on this site without written consent recorded beforehand. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by telling us, and we will take the material down.

Your rights, and how to use them.

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act you may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to us using it, and complain to the Information Regulator if we handle it badly.

In practice, email info@househope.org and say what you want done. There is no form to fill in and no fee. We will do it and tell you when it is done.

The Information Regulator of South Africa can be reached at inforegulator.org.za.

Changes.

If this notice changes, the new version replaces this one on this page. Nothing here is retroactive: what you sent us is handled under the notice that was up when you sent it.
